ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University football team (1-2, 1-2 NACC) took down the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons (1-2, 1-2 NACC) Sunday afternoon 20-14. Rockford showed tremendous strength on defense recording five sacks for a total loss of 35 yards, forcing five fumbles, breaking up seven passes and a 52-yard interception. The Regents had a big first half, scoring three touchdowns that proved to be the decider. Rockford honored its seniors today, sending them off with a win at home against the Falcons.
- Rockford was the first to put points on the board, scoring on the third drive of the game. Ja'uan Joiner gave the Regents excellent field position by recovering a fumble at the Falcon's 28-yard line. At the one-yard line, Jaelen Ray took it himself for a Regents touchdown and with Gerardo Zamudio's extra point kick, Rockford was up 7-0.
- The Regents defense shut down the Falcons on its next drive with Takhari Bowens getting a sack for a loss of a yard.
- Rockford wasted no time adding to its lead with a pass from Jaelen Ray to a wide-open Joey Owens for a 71-yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was blocked, giving the Regents a 13-0 lead with 3:45 remaining in the first quarter.
- Just before the second quarter, the Regents Takhari Bowens earned his second sack of the day, only this time it was for a loss of 20 yards and a forced fumble recovered by the Falcons at its one-yard line.
- The Falcon's first drive of the second quarter was stopped short by Marc Surpris sacking the quarterback and forcing a fumble recovered by Jon Gibas.
- Rockford scored its third touchdown of the day in the second quarter, taking advantage of the fumble recovery. Jaelen Ray completed a pass to Joey Owens for a 29-yard touchdown, giving the Regents a commanding 20-0 lead.
- Rockford forced the Falcons to turn the ball over two times in the third quarter with Jamal Seymore Jr. intercepting a pass and returning it for 52 yards, and Dallas Brown forcing a fumble.
- The Falcons scored twice in the fourth quarter with a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown but the Regent defense was too much to handle as Rockford went on to win 20-14.
- Jaelen Ray recorded 214 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown.
- Joey Owens had 7 catches for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns.
- LaVar Johnson Jr. tallied 23 carries for 97 yards and 7 receptions for 62 yards.
- Tyler Burnham had 11 tackles and 2 pass break-ups.
- Takhari Bowens recorded 3 sacks for a loss of 28 yards, 5 tackles and a forced fumble.
- Marc Surpris had 8 tackles with a sack for a loss of 6 yards and a forced fumble.
- Dallas Brown added a sack for a loss of 4 yards, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
- Jamal Seymore Jr. had 2 tackles, a fumble recovery and a 52-yard interception.
The Regents return to action on Saturday, April 10 at Eureka College with a probable start time of 1 PM TBA.
