MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The RU baseball team (8-10) fell 16-6 in a single game on the road Wednesday afternoon to the MSOE Raiders (3-7). Although the final score might not indicate it, the game was much closer than a 10-run affair. Rockford briefly led in the fifth and only trailed by a single run after seven innings of play. However, MSOE put up nine runs in the eighth en route to a 16-6 win. The Regents and Raiders were supposed to play a doubleheader on Wednesday, but the second game was postponed due to inclement weather.
- Following a scoreless first, MSOE scratched across a single run in the bottom of the second. The Raiders used three hits, including an RBI double by Justin Bickman to take a 1-0 lead.
- MSOE would extend its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third. The Raiders needed just two hits but also took advantage of a walk and a wild pitch to plate their two runs.
- Fortunately, the Rockford offense came to life in the top of the fourth inning.
- Jared Herzog led off the inning with a home run and cut the MSOE lead down to 3-1.
- Catcher Christian Garcia then promptly crushed a home run of his own, to make a 3-2 game and give Rockford back-to-back home runs to lead off the inning.
- Rockford would then take the lead one inning later.
- After a walk and an error put runners on first and second with two outs, Christian Garcia belted his second home run in as many innings, this one a three-run shot, to put his team in front 5-3.
- Unfortunately, the lead did not last long, as MSOE answered with a trio of runs in the bottom half of the inning.
- MSOE used three hits, a walk and a hit batsman to score the three runs and retake the lead at 6-5.
- The Raiders tacked on a additional run in the sixth to make it a 2-run game, at 7-5.
- Rockford answered right back in the top of the seventh with its fourth home run of the afternoon. Hunter Fiorito led off the frame with a solo shot to left center, to pull his team back within one at 7-6.
- Unfortunately, things began to unravel for Rockford in the bottom half of the eighth. The Regents surrendered nine runs off eight hits as MSOE secured a 16-6 win.
- Christian Garcia continued his hot streak at the plate on Wednesday. Garcia was 3-for-4 with 2 home runs, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Garcia is now tied for the NACC lead with 6 home runs and leads the conference with 27 runs batted in.
- Jared Herzog finished 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored.
- Hunter Fiorito was 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and 2 runs scored.
- Phil Hyland went 2-for-4.
- Logan List pitched well out of the bullpen for Rockford. List fired 1.1 scoreless innings and did not surrender a hit, while striking out one.
