RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Regents (2-10, 0-2 NACC) dropped a tight road match 3-1 on Tuesday night to the Concordia University Chicago Cougars (6-5, 1-1 NACC). Each of the first three sets could have gone either way, as they were decided by a total of just 10 points. Rockford struck first, taking the opening set 25-22. The Regents and Cougars each had 12 kills in the set, but Rockford's 5-1 edge in service aces was ultimately the deciding factor. However, Concordia Chicago flipped the script by taking the second set 25-20. The Cougars held a 10-6 edge in kills and 4-1 advantage in service aces, to knot the match at 1-1. Unfortunately, the Cougars then took the third set by a razor thin margin of 25-23. Although Rockford had two more kills and two less attack errors than the Cougars, CUC had a +7 combined advantage in aces, service errors and ball handling errors, which was ultimately the difference. Concordia Chicago then went on to win the fifth set 25-17 and the match 3-1.
- Concordia Chicago jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, before Rockford battled back to retake the lead.
- With Rockford holding a 5-4 advantage, Concordia Chicago used a 7-1 run to tie the largest lead for either team at 11-6.
- CUC continued to hold a five-point advantage at 18-13, before the Regents began to catch fire. Rockford ran off five of the next six points, led by a pair of kills from Melody Moreno, to pull back within a single point at 19-18.
- The two schools then traded points until Rockford scored the final five points and won the opening set 25-22. It was a combination of a pair of aces from Casey Sheetz and two kills from Della Crain, that closed out the set and gave the Regents a 1-0 advantage.
- The second set went back and forth the entire way.
- CUC opened things by jumping out to a quick 7-3 lead.
- Rockford then scored the next five points to take its first lead of the set at 8-7. Della Crain again led the way for the Regents with a pair of kills.
- With the Cougars now clinging to a 17-16 advantage, CUC scored five straight points to extend their led to a set-high six points.
- Rockford was able to get back within three, but unfortunately, Concordia Chicago scored three of the final four points to take the second set 25-20 and knot the match at 1-1.
- The Regents got off to a great start in the third set.
- Rockford never trailed in the opening moments and would eventually use a 6-1 run to take a 16-11 lead. Three different Regents tallied kills during that span, led by two kills from Melody Moreno.
- However, CUC responded with a 7-1 spurt of its own, to take its first lead of the set at 18-17.
- The two teams then went back and forth over the next few minutes, until CUC closed the set with a 4-1 run, to secure the 25-23 win.
- The final set was again close in the opening moments, with both teams leading at various points.
- With CUC holding a slim 10-9 lead, the Cougars ran off four straight points to extend their lead to 14-9.
- Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to get any closer than three points the remainder of the way, as CUC took the third set 25-17 and the match 3-1.
- Della Crain led all players and tied her career-high with a match-high 22 kills. She also added 2 aces, 2 blocks and a dig.
- Melody Moreno finished with 8 kills, 7 digs and 3 assists.
- Jessica Witkowski added 26 assists, 8 digs and 1 kill.
- Brynn Atwell tallied a career-high 26 digs, 4 assists and 2 aces.
- Casey Sheetz chipped in a season-high 12 digs, 4 assists and 2 aces.

The RU women's volleyball team returns home next Friday, October 1 to face Concordia University Wisconsin. The match has a scheduled start time of 7 PM in the Seaver Center.
