Regents Drop Nail-Biter to Cougars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Regents (2-10, 0-2 NACC) dropped a tight road match 3-1 on Tuesday night to the Concordia University Chicago Cougars (6-5, 1-1 NACC). Each of the first three sets could have gone either way, as they were decided by a total of just 10 points. Rockford struck first, taking the opening set 25-22. The Regents and Cougars each had 12 kills in the set, but Rockford's 5-1 edge in service aces was ultimately the deciding factor. However, Concordia Chicago flipped the script by taking the second set 25-20. The Cougars held a 10-6 edge in kills and 4-1 advantage in service aces, to knot the match at 1-1. Unfortunately, the Cougars then took the third set by a razor thin margin of 25-23. Although Rockford had two more kills and two less attack errors than the Cougars, CUC had a +7 combined advantage in aces, service errors and ball handling errors, which was ultimately the difference. Concordia Chicago then went on to win the fifth set 25-17 and the match 3-1.
