VERONA, Wis. - The Rockford University men's soccer team (4-3-0, 2-0-0 NACC) remained unbeaten in conference play after an exciting 2-1 road win over Edgewood College (0-6-0, 0-3-0). Although the Regents held a commanding 27-17 advantage in shots, Rockford had just an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. The Regents took a 1-0 lead into the half, but the Eagles would tie the match at 1-1 in the 64th minute off a penalty kick. Fortunately,
Miguel Gallardo delivered the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute off a rebound in front of the Edgewood net. The win gives the Regents their first ever 2-0 start in NACC play and their second straight win over Edgewood.
- Rockford had a pair of scoring opportunities in the opening minutes of the match. Miguel Gallardo and Jeremiah Tobar fired back-to-back shots at the goal, but both were turned away by Edgewood goalkeeper Jack Genter.
- Simeon Adesina was able to find the back of the net in the 25th minute to give Rockford an early 1-0 lead. Maurico Flores found Adesina in the middle of the box and he did the rest, beating the Edgewood keeper for his second goal of the season.
- Rockford had a few more scoring chances in the first half, but was denied on each occasion, as the Regents took a 1-0 lead into the break.
- The Eagles came out and peppered the goal in the opening minutes of the second half.
- Edgewood tallied four shots on goal in the first 20 minutes, with the fourth one coming on a penalty kick. Tyler Nelson was able to capitalize on a Regent penalty in the box and knot the match at 1-1.
- The match was not tied for long however, as Rockford regained the lead less than ten minutes later. After a Regent shot attempt hit the post and was subsequently knocked back out, Miguel Gallardo was Johnny-on-the-spot and delivered the game-winning goal from twelve yards out.
- A one-goal lead was more than enough for RU goalie Maverick Attwood and the rest of the Regent defense. Attwood stopped both of the Eagle shots on goal over the final 18 minutes to secure the 2-1 victory.
- Miguel Gallardo led Rockford with 9 shot attempts, 4 shots on goal and 1 goal.
- Simeon Adesina finished with 5 shots, 2 shots on goal and 1 goal.
- Maurico Flores added 1 assist.
- Maverick Attwood tallied 6 saves and moved to 4-3-0 in the net this season.
