Men's Soccer Drops its First NACC Match of the Season

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -  The Rockford University men's soccer team (4-4-0, 2-1-0) fell 3-0 on the road Saturday afternoon to the MSOE Raiders (5-3-1, 3-0-0 NACC). The match was actually much closer than what the final score might indicate. Although Rockford was outshot 17-9 in the match, each team had an identical five shots on goal. Additionally, the Regents held the Raiders without a shot on goal in the first half. However, MSOE seemed to find its rhythm early on the second half. The Raiders scored a pair of goals in the first ten minutes of the second half and then added one more in the 70th minute en route to the 3-0 victory.

Recap Recap
  • Rockford recorded the only three shots on goal for either team in the first half.
  • Christopher Perea tallied the first of those in just the fifth minute of the match.
  • Nolan Beard and Marcos Gutierrez then had back-to-back scoring opportunities in the 21st minute; however, the Regents came up empty all three times, as the match entered the intermission scoreless.
  • MSOE would then break the scoreless tie very early on in the second half.
  • Steven Arthur and Connor Dees found the back of the net on the Raiders' first two shot attempts of the second half, to give MSOE a 2-0 advantage.
  • Rockford had a couple of looks at the goal over the next few minutes, but shots by Pedro Acosta and Jeremiah Tobar were saved by MSOE keeper Ron Marchionna.
  • Steven Arthur then scored his second goal of the match at the 70:12 mark to seal the 3-0 Raider win.
Stat Leaders
