ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (7-6, 3-4
NACC) escaped in thrilling fashion on Thursday night with a 69-67 overtime win against Marian University (3-10, 1-6
NACC).
Anaya Davis continued to cause all sorts of problems for the opposition, as she tallied her second straight game with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds. Rockford has seen only one other player in the
NACC-era with 20 points and 20 rebounds (
Megan Lawler), and now Davis has recorded consecutive 20-point, 20-rebound games. Davis is still tied for first nationally in double-doubles with 11 and is top 10 in rebounds per game following three straight games with at least 20 rebounds. Davis also continues to lead the
NACC in both rebounding and scoring after tonight's 22-point, 22-rebound performance.
- After giving up the first basket of the game, Rockford went on a 12-2 run, playing strong defense, forcing Marian into 3 turnovers and a 22 percent field goal percentage.
- Marian got into stride after, finishing the quarter on an 8-1 run to bring the score at the end of the quarter to 13-12, Rockford was in the lead.
- The second quarter started as a back-and-forth battle with the two sides trading points until Marian went on another run, taking a large lead after scoring nine straight points, going ahead 25-17.
- Each side only scored eight points each before the end of the second quarter, Anaya Davis was the key scorer for the Regents, scoring 6 of last 8 points in the half. Marian went into the half with the lead the lead 33-25.
- The second half started with three RU layups and a pair of Marian three-pointers. Rockford stepped up shortly after working back into the game, going on a 14-6 run with Natalie Posadas contributing six points of her own to lead the run.
- With 1:20 left in the third quarter, Natalie Posadas hit a three-pointer that put Rockford in the lead for the first time since the start of the second quarter.
- The lead was short lived, as the start of the fourth quarter was in the Sabres favor as a 6-0 run gave Marian back the lead.
- Rockford kept themselves in striking distance until Audrina Terhune hit the game-tying shot with 48 seconds left. Neither team was able to convert after, and the game would have to be settled in overtime.
- The Regents took the lead 67-62 after a back and forth start to overtime.
- Anaya Davis hit the final shot for the Regents and Marian was unable to score in the closing seconds, and Rockford secured the win, 69-67.
- Anaya Davis once again recorded a fantastic stat line, finishing with a team high 22 points and 22 rebounds on the way to the overtime victory. She also finished with 2 steals.
- Natalie Posadas scored 17 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, recorded 3 assists, and led the team in steals with 4
- Audrina Terhune had 15 points, recorded 4 rebounds, and led the team in assists with 6.
- Roshanda Stevens secured 11 rebounds of her own and had 3 steals.

The RU women's basketball team gets ready for another home game on Saturday the 15th against St. Norbert College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2pm.
