LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University women's soccer team narrowly lost to the Lakeland University Muskies in a NACC soccer match Saturday afternoon. RU led in the shots category 17-10, but the Muskies made the most of their chances, winning 3-2 at the final whistle. Rockford scored the opening goal thanks to some great hustle by
Samara Tanchuck in the 20th minute. Lakeland responded before the end of the half, however, scoring a pair of goals to take the lead over the Regents 2-1. The Regents equalized with a great shot from
Rianna Tovar in the 65th minute, but RU fell behind for the final time after a cross was put into the net in the 70th minute to take the lead. Rockford couldn't score a third goal, giving the Muskies their first conference win of the season, 3-2.
- 20 minutes was all it took for the first goal of the match. A defensive miscue was taken advantage of by Samara Tanchuck. She hustled behind the defense and reached the ball first, getting a shot underneath the goalkeeper into the net to take a 1-0 lead.
- A little over 17 minutes later, a punt landed in a perfect spot for Lakeland, who took a deep shot and put the ball into an empty net to equalize the match at 1 each.
- Six minutes later, a free kick for the Muskies was taken outside the box and went over the head of the Rockford goalkeeper to give LU its first lead of the match at 2-1.
- Both sides went into halftime, the Regents led in shots (6-5) but the Muskies led on the scoreboard (2-1).
- RU responded in the 65th minute of the contest, a ball bouncing in the box eventually fell to Rianna Tovar, who got around a defender and placed a shot out of reach into the top left of the goal to tie the match again at 2-2.
- A Lakeland free kick later in the 70th minute was crossed in perfectly and slotted away by the Muskies Alondra Reyes, giving LU its third goal and in the end game-winning goal.
- Rockford had opportunities in the final 20 minutes, but failed to score, losing 3-2.
