PLYMOUTH, Wis. - The Rockford University men's basketball team (12-7, 6-6 NACC) took care of business with an impressive 87-73 road win on Saturday over the Lakeland University Muskies (9-11, 5-8 NACC). The score was fairly close for much of the day, until the Regents used a 24-5 run late in the second half and put the game out of reach. A couple of reasons behind the Regents win was their ability to rebound the basketball and their outstanding bench play. Rockford outrebounded Lakeland 52-32, which at least in part led to a 48-36 edge in points in the paint and a 16-8 advantage in second chance points. The Regent bench also had perhaps its best performance of the season, outscoring the Muskie bench 61-19.
- The opening six minutes of the game saw the two schools trading baskets, with neither team leading by more than one score.
- With Rockford holding an 11-10 lead, the Regents scored nine straight points to make it a ten-point game with 11:08 left in the first half. Zac Centers and Jaden Bell hit threes on back-to-back possessions to led the RU offensive attack.
- Lakeland was able to trim the Rockford lead back down to four, but Rockford answered right back with an 8-2 run to again make it a ten-point game at the 3:42 mark. This time it was Ashton Singleton and Daelyn Franklin who drained back-to-back triples to spark the Regent offense.
- However, Lakeland was able to close the half on a 6-0 run and make it just a 37-33 Rockford lead heading into the break.
- The Muskies continued to chip away in the opening minutes of the second half until they were finally able to retake the lead for the first time since the first few minutes of the game. Lakeland opened the half on a 9-4 run to grab a one-point lead at 42-41.
- Lakeland's lead did not last long though, as Rockford scored the next five points over a span of thirty seconds to jump back in front.
- Rockford's advantage hovered around two points over the next nine minutes or so until the Regents put the game out of reach.
- With 8:27 left and Rockford clinging to a 62-60 advantage, the Regents went on a 24-5 run over a span of 6:26 to blow the game wide open. Six different Regents scored over that span, led by nine points from DJ Bonds and six points from Sincere Galbreath.
- Lakeland never got any closer than 14 the remainder of the way, as Rockford cruised to an 87-73 victory.
- DJ Bonds finished with a game-high 22 points on 7-10 shooting off the bench.
- Vincent Eugene added a season-high 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal off the bench.
- Micah Swanson had 9 points and 5 rebounds.
- Nick Phillips scored 8 points and had 1 rebound off the bench.
- Sincere Galbreath tallied 7 points, 2 assists and 1 steal off the bench.

The RU men's basketball team is back at home on Monday, February 7 to face Dominican University. Tip-off is set for 7 PM in the Seaver Center.
