PLYMOUTH, Wis. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (11-9, 7-7 NACC) stormed back for a huge 60-54 road win on Saturday afternoon against the Lakeland University Muskies (10-10, 6-7 NACC). The Regents trailed for nearly the entire game, including by double-digits at numerous points in the second half. However, the Regents outscored the Muskies 23-12 in the fourth quarter to pick up their fourth win in their last five games. The win also moves Rockford into seventh place in the NACC standings and puts the Regents in position to host an opening round game in the conference tournament. A couple of key takeaways from Saturday's game were the Regents' ability to rebound the basketball and convert those opportunities under the bucket into points. Rockford outrebounded Lakeland 53-44, which helped lead to a 16-6 advantage in second chance points and a 28-16 edge in points in the paint.
- Rockford's Anaya Davis began the game with a made layup to give Rockford a quick 2-0 lead after the opening possession of the day.
- However, the Muskies promptly went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes, to take a double-digit lead midway through the first quarter.
- Lakeland would push its advantage to as many as twelve, before ultimately taking a 17-7 lead heading into the second.
- Rockford came out firing on all cylinders to begin the second period. The Regents opened with a 9-2 run over the first 2:10 and trimmed the Muskie lead down to just three, at 19-16. Anaya Davis led the way with seven points, while Naynay Clark chipped in two.
- With Lakeland now leading by five and less than five minutes left in the first half, the Regents scored the next five points to tie the game at 26-26. Natalie Posadas would tie the game with 1:04 left in the half by forcing a Muskie turnover and taking it all the way to the rim for a fastbreak layup.
- However, Lakeland was able to connect on a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to take a 28-26 advantage into the half.
- The third quarter got off to a rocky start, with Lakeland once again pushing its lead back into double-figures.
- With the Muskies still holding a ten-point lead and 1:49 left in the period, Rockford used a 5-0 run to close the quarter and pull back within five. Anaya Davis scored the first three points and Audrina Terhune hit a layup in the final seconds to make it just a 42-37 game heading into the final quarter of play.
- Rockford then turned its 5-0 run at the end of the third quarter into a 10-0 run, after scoring the first five points of the fourth quarter and tying the game at 42-42. Mikayla Ashford had three points and Lamyia Maebane scored the other two.
- The Muskies answered right back and built their lead to as many as seven at 53-46.
- Fortunately, the Regents turned in an absolutely incredible defensive performance over the final 4:36 of the game. Rockford held Lakeland without a basket (0-of-9) over that span and allowed just a single point on one made free throw.
- Offensively, the Regents did a tremendous job of getting to and converting at the free throw line. Rockford went 12-of-15 at the charity stripe over the final five minutes, including connecting on its final four attempts to seal the Regents' first win over Lakeland since 2014.
- Anaya Davis continues to put together one of the best seasons in program history. Davis poured in a career-high 32 points and 18 rebounds to bring her NACC Division III-leading double-double total up to 17 this season. She also entered today's game leading the country in both rebounds (262) and offensive rebounds per game (6.9). Additionally, Davis is still leading the NACC in both scoring (18.3 ppg) and rebounding (14.0 rpg).
- Audrina Terhune finished with 9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.
- Naynay Clark had 6 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.
- Lamyia Maebane added 5 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal.
