Box Score ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team (1-6) grabbed its first win of the season against Wisconsin Lutheran College (0-6) in a dominating 3-0 performance on Tuesday night. The Regents were on point all night holding Wisconsin Lutheran without a block or an ace for the entire match.
Jose Padron contributed heavily on both offense and defense, recording a team-high 10 kills, 2 aces, a block and tallying 7 digs. Along with the great performance, the Regents also broke multiple individual and team records, most notably
James Davenport breaking the digs per set record (5.33).
Set 1
- Rockford started out in front up 5-2. Tristan Cox contributed with the first ace of the game during that run.
- WLC took the lead shortly after with a 4-point run to go up 6-5. The Regents did not let it last long however, as RU grabbed five points in a row to go up 10-6.
- The Warriors pulled within three at 14-11, but the Regents stretched the lead back out to 21-14 to set Rockford up nicely for the first set win.
- A scary three-straight points by WLC was met with RU grabbing four of the last six points to seal the first set and take a lead in the match 1-0.
Set 2
- Wisconsin Lutheran looked like the aggressors at the start of the second set, going up 4-1. Rockford tied the game at five, but WLC went up again on the next serve 6-5.
- What followed was a stunning 18-4 run by the Regents, dominating the attack and taking an insurmountable lead, 23-10.
- Wisconsin Lutheran took four of the last six points, but two points was all the Regents needed to secure a very strong 2-0 set lead.
Set 3
- With their backs against the wall, the Warriors started out ahead 4-2. Rockford once again eliminated that lead to go in the Regents favor 6-4.
- While not as strong as the second set run, RU registered another run, this one 10-4, to take another large lead 16-8.
- WLC only gave up three points over the next eleven points, crawling back into competition with the score at 19-16.
- Rockford needed a response, and the Regents were up to the challenge. RU slammed the door, going on a 6-0 run to win the third set and bring an end to the match three sets to none.
- Jose Padron led in kills with 10. He also had 2 service aces and 7 digs.
- James Davenport recorded 16 digs to lead the Regents. He recorded 5.33 digs per set which broke the school record of 4.0 previously set by Jett Stewart.
- Josh Albers was the main setter and finished with the team-high in assists with 28. Albers also tied the school record for assists per set with 9.33 (Jett Stewart).
- Danny Karpenko finished with a team-high 3 blocks in the match.
- Rockford as a team broke multiple records including 11 assists per set (previously 10) and kills per set with 11.67 (previously 11).

The Rockford men's volleyball team will head on the road to the Judson Invitational for a four-game weekend on Friday and Saturday. Rockford will begin play at 11:30am against the hosts, Judson University.
