Eagles Defeat Regents in Straight Sets

Box Score ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team (3-17, 0-7 NACC) was beaten in three straight sets at the hands of a tough Benedictine University (8-5, 4-0 NACC) team on Wednesday night. Rockford gave Benedictine all it had, challenging them in each set. The Regents were within striking distance multiple times against the Eagles, who are currently getting votes to enter the AVCA top-15 teams in the country. Despite the 3-0 set score, the Regents held their own and played a strong contest against a strong opponent.

  • Rockford and Benedictine traded points to start the first part of the set, working the score to 5-5. Danny Karpenko had a nice ace during the run.
  • Benedictine went on a three-point run and later another four-point run to build a solid 14-8 lead.
  • The Regents slowly climbed back into the game, pulling the score to 21-20 in favor of the Eagles.
  • RU stayed on Benedictine's tail, refusing to let the Eagles pull away for good.
  • Rockford needed to get the next point at 24-23 but was not able to get the ball in play on a service error. Benedictine won the first set 25-23.
  •  The Eagles jumped out in the lead to start the second set at 12-5.
  • After a Regents kill by Isaiah Dixon, Benedictine continued to build a lead, stretching it to 10 points at 18-8.
  • Rockford entered double digits with a three straight points, including back-to-back aces by Danny Karpenko, putting the score at 18-11.
  • Benedictine overwhelmed the Regents for the remainder of the set, going on a 7-4 run to slam the door on the second set, winning 25-15.
  • Rockford started the third set in the lead 4-2, but Benedictine came back at the Regents with a five-point run to take the lead 7-4.
  • The Regents and Eagles began trading points again, keeping the game close. Benedictine started pulling away towards the end of the set, producing points in sets of two, to make the score 17-13.
  • Rockford didn't give up however, the Regents scored the next three points to make it a 17-16 set. Isaiah Dixon and Danny Karpenko had a huge block to help the run.
  • Benedictine rebounded from the run, claiming an 8-5 run to win the final set and the match 25-21.
