Regents Four-Hit Bucs in a 3-0 win

BELOIT, Wis. - The Rockford University baseball team (15-18) picked up a dominating 3-0 road win over Beloit College (15-20) on Tuesday evening. The Rockford pitching staff was the story of the game. The Regents surrendered just four hits on the day and secured their second shutout victory of the season. Offensively, it was Jared Herzog who came up with a clutch two-out RBI single in the third, to give his team the early lead. The bullpen would take it the rest of the way, holding Beloit scoreless over the final seven innings en route to a 3-0 win.

Recap Recap
  • The Rockford University pitching staff put forth one of its best performances of the season. Five different Regents combined to throw a four-hit shutout and strike out seven.
  • Brayden Bidwell went the first two innings, allowing just one hit and keeping the game scoreless heading into the top of the third.
  • Tyler Peake and Bradey Franks began the inning with a hit by pitch and a single, to put runners on first and second with no one out. Three batters later, Jared Herzog came up with a clutch two-out, RBI single through the right side of the infield, giving Rockford a 1-0 lead.
  • Nick Paun then took over for Bidwell on the mound and went the next two innings. Paun fanned a pair of hitters, including the final batter in the fourth, to get out of a jam and hold the Bucs without a run.
  • With Rockford still holding a 1-0 lead in the fifth, the Regents turned the ball over to Blake Shallenbarger. Shallenbarger struck out the first batter in each of the next two innings and did not allow a runner past first base.
  • The Regents then looked to Quinn Rempfer to pitch a scoreless seventh. Rempfer allowed the first batter to reach base, but then retired the next three, as Rockford took its 1-0 lead into the eighth.
  • At that point Rockford turned the game over to closer Christian Dahlstrom, who would send it into the ninth with the Regents still leading 1-0.
  • Ryan Smith would then jump-start the offense with a one-out double in the top of the ninth. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Jake Bilotta drove in the first run of the inning on a fielder's choice. One batter later, Rockford capitalized on an errant pickoff attempt to make it a 3-0 game heading into the bottom of the ninth.
  • Three runs was more than enough for Christian Dahlstrom, as he retired the Buccaneers in order to secure the 3-0 win and his fifth save of the season.
