LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team captured NACC win number one in a 2-0 victory over Edgewood College on Wednesday night. Despite the 2-0 score line, it was a very balanced match between the two sides, with Rockford winning in the shots category 16-15 and a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Regents two top goal scorers,
Abraham Gonzalez and
Simeon Adesina, each netted a goal on the way to the win, while Adesina's goal was assisted by
Julius Eser, his first assist of the year.
- There was consistent pressure from Rockford to begin the first half, which eventually paid off in the 23rd minute on a great pass through the defense from Julius Eser to Simeon Adesina, who slotted the ball into the net for the opening goal of the game.
- Both sides continued searching for the net through the rest of the first half, but the match was set at 1-0 after the first half. The Eagles concluded the first half in front in the shots category at 7-6, but it did not reflect on the scoreboard.
- The insurance goal came in the 64th minute off the foot of Abraham Gonzalez, who capitalized on a mid-field turnover to make it 2-0 midway through the second half.
- Edgewood inevitably could not climb back into the match, Gustavo Lazcano earning his clean sheet with 6 total saves, giving Rockford its first NACC win of the season 2-0.
