VERONA, Wis. - The Rockford University women's soccer team fought hard but dropped a defensive battle 1-0 on Thursday evening at Edgewood College. The Eagles outshot Rockford 33-0, but the Regents thwarted nearly every single Edgewood scoring attempt the entire evening. Unfortunately, Edgewood was finally able to break through with a goal in the 81st minute and secure the 1-0 win. The one-goal differential marked the closest match between the two schools since the formation of the NACC prior to the 2006 season.
- It was a defensive-minded match between the Regents and the Eagles from the opening whistle until the final horn.
- Despite being outshot 18-0 in the first half, Rockford played stellar defense over the opening 45 minutes and entered the break tied 0-0.
- Elizabeth Elison was absolutely outstanding throughout the night, but especially in the first half. The Rockford keeper denied the Eagles on ten separate occasions and kept the match scoreless.
- Elison would make five more saves in the second half, to give her 15 for the match.
- Unfortunately, the Eagles were finally able to break through with an unassisted, game-winning goal off the foot of Greta Blau in the 81st minute.
