ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University football team had a very difficult outing against Aurora University in a harsh 70-7 defeat. Neither the offense nor defense could get anything going after the Regents second drive of the game. RU held the lead at 7-0 but proceeded to give up 70 unanswered points by the end of the game. Joey Owens still turned in 5 receptions for 143 yards, his season-high.
- The Regents got great field position on their second drive of the game thanks to an interception by Maddux Rigsby that he returned to the 8-yard line.
- Rockford capitalized shortly after on a Jaelen Ray rushing touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.
- Aurora then spent the remainder of the quarter scoring on every possession the Spartans had, resulting in four straight touchdowns to take a 28-7 lead into the second quarter.
- Aurora started the second quarter scoring again to make it 35-7.
- After getting a stop defensively, the offense came out for the Regents and worked it all the way to the Aurora 1-yard line. After an incompletion, Aurora intercepted a pass and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown to make it 42-7.
- The Spartans offense got back on the field with 5:04 remaining in the half and charged 74 yards down the field into the end zone in 7 plays to make it 49-7.
- Starting the second half, Aurora picked up where it left off, scoring on the opening possession in 2 plays, including a 59-yard touchdown pass.
- The Spartans ran up the score to 70-7 before the end of the third quarter. Neither side scored for the remainder of the game and Aurora took the win 70-7.
