First Quarter Struggles Doom Regents Against Aurora

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team dropped its conference match to the Aurora University Spartans 64-44 on Wednesday night. It was a costly first quarter that proved to be the difference as Rockford went down by 23 and was never able to recover by the end of the game. Aurora started the game on a 16-0 run and never looked back despite Rockford winning the next two quarters of play. The fourth quarter was another close battle but the Regents could not overcome the deficit, losing their 12th game of the season. Despite the loss, Audrina Terhune turned in a double-double with team-highs in both points (14) and rebounds (12).

  • Aurora caught fire offensively and defensively, starting the game on a 16-0 run, forcing multiple turnovers and converting them to points.
  • Rockford finally got on the board with 4:06 left on the board with a free throw from Audrina Terhune, but Aurora continued to pile points on, going on a 13-5 run to end the quarter and hold a 29-6 lead at the break. Audrina Terhune ended with 3 points and Lexi Keating had the other basket.
  • The second quarter had Rockford keeping up with the Aurora offense after it cooled down after the break. Rockford managed to outscore the Spartans 10-9 in quarter two to put the score at 38-16 at halftime. Katie Paredes and Audrina Terhune led the offense with four points each, while Tyra Clark recorded an additional basket.
  • Coming out of the break, Rockford started on a 3-0 run, but it became another low-scoring quarter, with the Regents winning the quarter 9-8 on the back of 4 points by Audrina Terhune, 3 points by Jocelyn Callahan, and a basket by Katie Paredes. Aurora still firmly held the lead 46-28.
  • Aurora controlled the start of the final quarter on a 6-2 run, but Rockford stepped up and rallied, scoring the next 6 points.
  • The Spartans continued to hold the lead, however, trading points the rest of the way, and with the final horn secured the win against Rockford 64-44.
