ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University football team took the loss 19-7 to the visiting Benedictine University Eagles in a Saturday Homecoming matchup. The Regents and Eagles scored all of their points in the first half and neither team was able to add to the scoring in the second half. The Regent defense gave the team multiple chances to get things going and was able to force 2 interceptions, a turnover on downs and multiple punts. The Regents also held the Eagles to just 9 passing yards for the whole game.The offense however was held in check and the Eagles were able to walk away with a 19-7 win.
- The Regents started their first drive on their own 34 yard line and drove the ball down the field 66 yards in 8 plays to put the Regents up 6-0 and Kaden Finnestad tacked on the extra point.Â
- Jaelen Ray was able to find Joshua Morris in the end zone for a 5 yard touchdown, his first receiving touchdown of the season.
- The Regents dominated time of possession in the first quarter with the Eagles only getting one drive, resulting in a punt.
- Benedictine was able to find its first points of the game with an 18 yard touchdown by Eagles quarterback Evan Wydajewski, but were not able to add the extra point, keeping the Regents in front 7-6.
- Benedictine again scored on its next two drives to push them in front 19-7 going into the half.
- The Regent defense came up with an interception from Joey Alvarez to start the second half, but the Eagles got one right back, intercepting one of their own as well.
- Neither team was able to get things going in the third quarter, with multiple punts and turnovers on downs.
- Djimon Jefferson started out the 4th quarter with an interception for the Regents, but the offense struggled to get going again and were forced to punt.
- The Regents continued to falter offensively and the Eagles held onto the game 19-7, with a second half shutout from both teams.Â
- Joey Alvarez had 18 total tackles and 1 interception. Those 18 tackles put tie him for 5th most in a single game in program history.Â
- Braden Politsch had 12 total tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.Â
- Jaelen Ray had 160 yards passing and a touchdown.
- Joshua Morris had the lone touchdown catch for the Regents and 5 yards receiving.
