LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Regents took a well-fought 1-0 win over the Benedictine University Eagles on Wednesday night. The Regents had not won a match against the Eagles in 19 straight meetings, with the last win being a 5-2 win for Rockford in 2001. This improves the Regents to 4-2-1 in the NACC and also puts them in 4th place in the conference standings.
Abraham Gonzalez provided the only spark needed for the Regents with a goal in the 71st minute.
- Both teams traded a pair of shots in the early stages into the match, with Javier Palacios getting off 2 shots for the Regents in the 9th minute, but neither attempt was successful.
- The Eagles threatened in the 24th minute with a shot on goal, but Andrik Vidaurri was able to save it for his team, keeping the match knotted 0-0.
- Neither team was able to get anything going in the first half so the match remained even going into the half.
- Benedictine came out firing multiple shots at the Regent goal, but Andrik Vidaurri was able to tally 2 saves to eliminate the Eagle threat.
- The Regents were finally able to cash in on a goal by Abraham Gonzalez in the 71st minute off of a pass from Ian Jurgensen to give Rockford a 1-0 lead.
- The Eagles were able to shoot 7 more times before the end of the match, but the Regents handled each chance and were able to hold on 1-0.
