Rockford's Late Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University women's basketball team fell 59-53 on the road Saturday evening to the Alverno College Inferno. Rockford led by as many as 12 points in the first half; however, the Inferno flipped the script in the second half, leading by as many as nine midway through the fourth quarter. The Regents were able to get back within two, but unfortunately, could not get any closer. Freshman Katie Paredes played perhaps the best game of her career on Saturday. She poured in a career-high 24 points, with 10 rebounds and 3 steals.

  • Rockford closed the period on a 10-2 run to take a 14-4 advantage heading into the second. The Regents also smothered the Inferno offensive attack, holding them to just 1-of-11 shooting over the first ten minutes.
  • Rockford built its lead up to as many as 12 points off a Lexi Keating bucket to start the second.
  • However, the Inferno outscored the Regents 23-13 in the period and sent the game into the break tied at 27-27.
  • The third quarter went back and forth with numerous ties and lead changes.
  • Rockford's largest lead came at the 7:17 mark when Audrina Terhune knocked down a jumper to put the Regents out in front 33-30.
  • Unfortunately, the Inferno promptly scored the next seven points to retake the lead at 37-33.
  • The Regents were eventually able to tie the game at 38-38 on a Lexi Keating triple, but entered the fourth trailing by a single point.
  • Alverno opened the final period on a 6-0 run and eventually pushed its lead to a game-high nine points with 6:05 left.
  • Fortunately, Rockford answered back with a 9-2 run to make it 55-53 game with 2:51 remaining. Kyla Wilkerson got the scored started with her second triple of the game, and Katie Paredes scored the final six points to make it just a two-point game.
  • However, it was not meant to be, as Alverno scored the final four points for the 59-53 win.
