BELOIT, Wis. - The Rockford University baseball team lost both of its final two conference games against the Benedictine Eagles. Benedictine controlled game one, running away with the 12-4 victory. Rockford held the lead in game two, but a seven-run fourth inning gave the Eagles the lead and eventually the win 12-5. Despite the losses,
Alex Perez was a heavy contributor, hitting 5-for-8 with two RBIs and a double.
Benedictine 12 Rockford 4
- Benedictine scored early in the first with a single that brought home a runner from second to make it 1-0.
- The Eagles added a second run in the second inning on a groundout that advanced the runner home making it 2-0.
- Benedictine opened the game up in the fourth with a grand slam to left center to create a 6-0 lead.
- A single in the sixth brought in a runner from third for the Eagles, making it 7-0.
- Rockford broke the shutout in the seventh when Joseph Stagowski hit a three-run home run to cut into the lead 7-3.
- BenU added five more runs and left the Regents trailing 12-3 with one half inning to try and mount a comeback.
- With one out, Ryan Stejskal delivered a solo home run to bring the score to 12-4. The Regents were unable to score more before the final out was recorded, giving the Eagles the win in game one 12-4.
Benedictine 12 Rockford 5
- Rockford opened the scoring in the third inning. Alex Perez knocked a double that scored Ryan Stejskal and Joseph Stagowski to make the score 2-0. Jared Herzog hit a single right after and scored Alex Perez to stretch the lead to 3.
- The lead didn't last however, as Benedictine tallied seven runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead 7-3.
- Rockford got one of the runs back when Jared Herzog hit a single to score Jake Bilotta from second, making it 7-4.
- Benedictine added three more runs in the sixth and seventh to go up 10-4.
- The Regents scored their final run of the game on a sacrifice fly that brought Jonathan Leon in to score to make it 10-5.
- The Eagles finished off the game with two more runs in the top of the ninth and took care of RU in the bottom of the ninth to secure the second win 12-5.
