CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The Rockford University women's soccer team opened its season with an impressive 3-1 road win on Friday afternoon at Blackburn College. Rockford completely dominated the match from start to finish, outshooting the Beavers 24-9, including a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Rianna Tovar got the Regents started with a pair of goals in the opening 17 minutes to put her team out in front 2-0. The Beavers were able to cut the Regent lead in half with a goal in the 27th minute, but Rockford netted its third goal of the first half to extend its lead to 3-1. This time it
Daisy Martinez who found the back of the net to make it a two-goal lead and seal the victory.
- The Regents needed just 5:32 to score their first goal of the 2023 season. Rianna Tovar scored an unassisted goal in the sixth of the match to put her team out in front 1-0.
- Rianna Tovar would strike again a little over 11 minutes later, with her second goal of the match to give her team a 2-0 lead. It was once again an unassisted goal and also turned out to be the game winning goal.
- The Beavers were able to cut the Regent lead back down to one in the 27th minute. Libby Adams capitalized on a Regent foul, and put the ensuing free kick into the back of the net, to make it a 2-1 game.
- Fortunately, Daisy Martinez scored her first collegiate goal 35th minute to put the Regents back out in front by two. Martinez's goal was also unassisted and gave Rockford a 3-1 lead heading into the half.
- Regent keeper Kaeleigh Taylor made a trio of saves in the second half to preserve the Regents' 3-1 win to open the season.
