ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball dropped its season opener 3-0 to the Wabash College Little Giants in a Friday night match in the Seaver Center. Wabash College led basically in every statistical category, making it hard on the Regents to battle back at times and this resulted in Rockford dropping the first two sets, 25-17, 25-15. In the final set Rockford put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell 27-25 and the Little Giants were able to walk away with a win in straight sets.
- After trading 3-0 runs the Regents and Little Giants found themselves tied 3-3 to start the first set, with Regent production coming from 2 kills by Nathan Vana and 1 by Joseph Hinckley.
- Rockford and Wabash both battled back and forth to a 12-11 Little Giant lead, until Wabash went on a 5-0 run to take a 17-11 lead and seize control of the set.
- Rockford never recovered from this run and Wabash College took the first set 25-17.
- The Little Giants got out to a quick 4-1 lead to start the second set.
- Rockford was able to battle back to a 6-5 Wabash lead, thanks to 2 kills from Nathan Simons and 1 from Josh Bowling.
- Wabash then went on a 12-4 run to take a commanding 18-9 lead and they did not look back and took the second set 25-15 to go up 2-0 in the match.
- Wabash College got out to a 6-2 lead to start the third set.
- The Regents scored the next 3 points, with a kill coming from Joseph Hinckley to make it a 6-5 game.
- This set remained close with each team trading 2-0, 3-0 and 4-0 runs resulting in a 19-18 Wabash lead.
- Rockford went on a slight 4-3 run to tie up the set 22-22, and was able to keep it close, until Wabash was able to close it out with 2 straight points and take the third set 27-25 and the overall match 3-0.
