Regents Sink Bucs in Season Opener

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team opened its season in convincing fashion with an impressive 64-48 win over the Beloit College Buccaneers in a Saturday night showdown. Minus a few lead changes at the start, Rockford was in complete control for the entire game, leading for 37 minutes and 33 seconds and leading by as much as 27. Statistically, the Regent defense held Beloit to a measly 18.3% shooting performance and took control on the glass, outrebouding the Bucs, 60-48. Offensively, Rockford had three players in double figures, all led by D'Asia Washington with a career-high 24 points, powering the Regents to the season-opening win and the second straight win over Beloit.

  • Rockford got out to an early 6-3 lead after a layup from D'Asia Washington
  • The Buccaneers were able to go on a quick 5-0 spurt to take an 8-6 lead, but Rockford responded right back with a 7-0 run to take a 13-8 lead. Rockford was led by Lexi Keating with 3 points during the run. 
  • The Regents were eventually able to close out the first quarter with a 17-10 lead. 
  • Rockford opened the second quarter with a big 14-3 run thanks to 6 points from both Alyssa Havard and D'Asia Washington to take a 31-13 lead. The Regents shot 6-10, including 2-3 from beyond the arc during the run. 
  • The Regents continued to pour it on, closing out the half with a 23-point lead at 44-21. 
  • Rockford grabbed its largest lead of the game with 6:17 left in the third quarter when Lexi Keating drilled a free throw for a 27-point, 48-21 lead. 
  • Beloit was able to slowly erase the large deficit, eventually lowering the Regent lead to 17 by the end of the third quarter at 54-37. 
  • Rockford and Beloit traded points throughout the start of the fourth quarter and the Buccaneers were not really able to make a dent in the large Regent lead. 
  • The Regents were able to hold off the Buccaneers and eventually take the impressive 64-48 win. 
Stat Leaders
  • D'Asia Washington put up her first double-double of the season with a career-high 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting and 10 rebounds. She also picked up an assist and a steal. 
  • Lexi Keating had 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting, picking up 7 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. 
  • Alyssa Havard provided 13 points, including 4-8 from beyond the arc, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.
