Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Hoops Breaks the RU Single-Game Threes Record but Falls on the Road to MSOE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University women's basketball team dropped its first NACC game of the season 66-56 on Wednesday evening at MSOE. Rockford dug itself into a hole midway through the first quarter that it was never quite able to get out of. The Regents did make it a one-possession game late in the first and a couple of times in the second quarter, but were never able to retake the lead. MSOE would eventually extend its lead to double digits early in the third quarter and never look back en route to the win. The game simply came down to MSOE shooting the ball better from the field than Rockford. The Raiders shot 47.9% from the floor compared to 34.7% for the Regents. Despite that large gap, Rockford was able to keep the game close for a half in part by making a school record 11 three-pointers, six of which came from Alyssa Havard.

Recap Recap
  • Rockford scored the first two points of the game on a pair of Nia Wilkerson free throws to take its first and only lead of the day.
  • With the game now tied at 7-7, MSOE went on an 11-2 run, including scoring eight straight, to take the largest lead for either team in the quarter.
  • Fortunately, the Regents scored the final seven points of the period, including one of Alyssa Havard's six three pointers, to make it just a two-point MSOE lead heading into the second quarter.
  • The Raiders eventually pushed their lead up to as many as nine points twice in the quarter before ultimately settling on a 32-25 advantage heading into the break.
  • Things really got of to a rocky start for the Regents in the third quarter. MSOE opened the period on a 12-1 run to take a 44-26 lead and seize control of the game.
  • Rockford trailed by 14 points at the end of the third and never got any closer than ten the rest of the way.
  • However, there was an exciting moment for Rockford in the closing minute of the game. With 48 seconds remaining, Allie Wintemute drained Rockford's eleventh triple of the day to break the RU single-game three-pointer record.
  • Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Regents fell by a final score of 66-56.
Stat Leaders
  • Alyssa Havard had perhaps the best game of her RU career on Wednesday. Havard scored a game-high 18 points off the bench and went 6-of-10 from three-point range. Her six threes were just one away from tying the RU single-game record. She also had 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
  • D'Asia Washington finished with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.
  • Lexi Keating added 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.
  • Nia Wilkerson tallied 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.
