Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Falls to Fifth-Ranked Cal Lutheran

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team dropped a neutral site match 3-0 to fifth-ranked Cal Lutheran on Sunday morning. Rockford struggled to get much of anything going in the first two sets, falling in each by identical 3-0 scores. However, the Regents played much better in the third set, including leading at multiple points. Rockford had 12 of its 22 total kills in the third, as well as two of its three blocks and the Regents' lone service ace. Unfortunately, it was not enough though, as Rockford fell 25-17 in the third and dropped the match in straight sets.

Recap Recap
  • Cal Lutheran opened the first set on a 7-2 run and never really looked back.
  • With Rockford still trailing by five at 10-5, the Regals scored 12 of the next 13 points to seize control of the set.
  • The Regents never got back within striking distance and lost the first set 25-10.
  • The second set followed a similar pattern with Cal Lutheran jumping out to a quick 7-1 lead.
  • The Regals again used a large spurt in the middle of the set, this time outscoring Rockford 11-2, to take a 20-7 advantage.
  • Rockford did not get any closer than 12 the rest of the way and dropped the second set 25-10.
  • The Regents got off to a much better start in the third set and led on several occasions. Josh Albers opened the set with a kill, Josh Bowling smashed home an ace to put Rockford in front 5-4 and Joaquin Santillan delivered a kill to put Rockford up 6-5.
  • Unfortunately, as was the case in the other two sets, Cal Lutheran used a large scoring spree in the middle of the set to take control. This time it was a 13-2 run by the Regals that gave them a seemingly insurmountable 18-8 advantage.
  • However, Rockford continued to battle and went on an 8-4 spurt of its own and got back within six at 22-16. Nathan Vana and Joseph Hinckley led the charge with two kills each.
  • The Regals were however able to score three of the next four points to win the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
