ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-21) at home to the Marian University Sabres in a Saturday afternoon conference match. Rockford had a tough time getting things going at the beginning of each set and ultimately found it tough to storm back into the match. After a lackluster first set for the Regents, they put up a good fight, keeping the last two sets close and sending them down to the wire. However, Marian was able to hold on and walk away with the match win in straight sets.
- Marian got out to a 7-0 lead to start the first set, until Rockford was able to get an error by the Sabres and a kill by Joaquin Santillan to get the Regents on the board.
- The Sabres continued to be in control, getting out to a 19-8 lead, Rockford did show some fight, scoring the next 5 of 8 points, to cut into the lead some, but Marian was able to hold on and take the first set 25-14.
- Marian got out to a 5-0 to start the second set.
- Rockford battled right back to a 7-6 Sabres lead, with two kills by Joaquin Santillan and one from Josh Albers and Danny Karpenko.
- The Regents then were able to take the lead, scoring the next four out of six points, capped off by a kill from Danny Karpenko.
- The Regents found themselves down 15-12, but Joaquin Santillan went on to get four straight kills for Rockford and make it a 18-16 game.
- The Sabres took care of business and were able to finish out the second set on a slight 7-4 run, putting them up 2-0 in the match score.
- Marian again found themselves up to start the set, this time 4-0 to start set three, until Rockford cashed in its first points with an error by the Sabres and two kills from Joaquin Santillan.
- The Regents were able to fight to a 12-10 deficit, but the Sabres were able to grab three-straight points to make it a 15-10 score.
- Rockford was able to muster up a 5-1 run to bring the score back to within one at a 16-15 Marian lead thanks to kills from Josh Albers and Isaiah Dixon during that stretch.
- Both teams continued to battle, leading to a 19-19 score after two-straight points from Rockford and the Regents were actually able to snag a 21-20 lead with the set coming to a finish, but the Sabres were able to swoop in and finish the third set on a 5-0 run, winning the match in straight sets.
