ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Dominican University Stars in a Wednesday night NACC meeting. The Stars were able to zoom right past the Regents in the first two sets, utilizing long-term runs to take each set by a score of 25-16 and 25-14. The third set was a lot closer, with the Regents overcoming an eight-point deficit to bring it within one at a 24-23 score, but the Stars were able to take care of business, scoring the last point and winning the third set 25-23, securing the match win for Dominican.
- The Stars got out to a blistering start, leading 8-1 to start the day.
- The Regents were able to get 3 kills in the next 4 points, thanks to one each from Isaiah Dixon, Danny Karpenko and Nathan Simons to try and creep back into the set.
- Dominican was able to stay in control for the remainder of the first set, holding the Regents off and taking the 25-16 set win.
- The second set started out close, with the Stars leading slightly, 6-5 after a Nathan Simons kill.
- The Stars then went on a quick 8-0 run and took a commanding 14-5 lead.
- Rockford found it tough to string it together after this run by the Stars and fell in the second set 25-14.
- The third set started out close as well, with Dominican getting out to a 4-3 lead.
- The Stars were then able to go on a 9-2 run to take a big 13-5 lead.
- The Regents were able to cut into the Dominican lead with a slight 6-4 run that included a kill each from Josh Albers, Isaiah Dixon and Nathan Simons to make it a 17-11 score.
- Rockford continued to keep it going with another run, this time 9-6 to make it a 23-20 set score.
- The Regents were able to push the envelope and get as close as 24-23, looking to keep the match going, but the Stars were able to steal the last point and walk away with the 3-0 match win.
- Nathan Simons delivered a team-high 8 kills, also recording 3 digs and 2 blocks.
- Josh Albers provided an all-around day with 4 kills, 10 assists, 6 digs and 1 block.
- Isaiah Dixon had 6 kills and 4 digs.
