ROCKFORD, Ill. - Rockford University Director of Athletics Jason Mulligan announced today that head women's basketball coach Victoria Nguyen is resigning as the school's head women's basketball coach. Coach Nguyen is leaving the University to accept a teaching and coaching position in the Rockford School District. A national search is underway for her replacement.

"We are sad to see Coach Nguyen go," Director of Athletics Jason Mulligan stated. "She showed an outstanding work ethic and was great at building relationships with her student-athletes. Coach Nguyen was called upon in a tough situation and definitely got the best out of her team. She has a promising future in the coaching business."

"The decision to step down was difficult, but I had the pleasure of being a part of the amazing growth of this program over the last five years," Coach Nguyen stated. "Thank you to my family, friends, coaches and my players. From our humble beginnings, I will forever be grateful for the opportunity at Rockford University!"

The RU women's basketball team has shown a tremendous amount of growth and had a multitude of accomplishments during Nguyen's tenure. The 2023-24 season saw the Regents go on the road during the regular season and defeat second-place St. Norbert for the first time in program history and clinch their second NACC Tournament berth in the last three years. Prior to that, Rockford finished its 2021-22 campaign with a 16-11 overall record, which was the most wins since 2005-06 (21-7), won nine NACC games, the most since 2010-11 (10-7), qualified for the NACC Tournament for the first time since 2013 and hosted and won a NACC Tournament game for the first time in program history. Additionally, Nguyen helped coach one of the most dominant players the RU women's basketball program has ever seen. Anaya Davis finished her freshman year ranked in the top 10 in the country in six different categories, including leading all NCAA Division III women's basketball players in double-doubles (21) and offensive rebounds per game (6.8). All in all, Nguyen coached five all-conference performers, an all-region honoree, the NACC Freshman of the Year, the Region 8 Rookie of the Year and an Academic All-District selection.
