LISLE, Ill. -- The Rockford University football team fell to Benedictine University, 42-9 on Saturday.
Quarterback
Gage Hugart finished 24-34 with 167 yards through the air.
William Key led RU on the ground with 55 yards off 22 attempts.
Three different Regents had three or more receptions.
Timothy Bearden led the team with eight receptions for 51 yards, while
Connor Willard had five grabs for 50 yards. Key was active in the passing game as well with four receptions for 15 yards.
Joey Alvarez led the RU defense with 12 tackles.
Matthew Hill and
Ethan Rager were also active for RU, totaling nine and eight tackles each. Rager had a team-high two sacks with one forced fumble, while Hill also had one sack.
RU trailed 21-0 after the first quarter. Both offenses were stagnant in the second quarter with no points, as Benedictine's lead remained 21-0 at halftime.
After a three-and-out to start the third quarter for the Regents, the Eagles scored on their first drive to go up 28-0. Hugart got the Regents on the board when he threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to
Timothy Bearden to make it 28-6, as BU held that lead going into the fourth quarter.
The Eagles scored two more touchdowns in the fourth to seal it. The Regents scored once more with a field goal from
Kaden Finnestad, as RU was outscored 14-3 in the fourth quarter.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, when they head to Aurora University to take on the Spartans at 1 p.m. CDT.
