MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- The Rockford University women's basketball team lost to non-conference opponent, Cornell College, 56-34 on Wednesday in its season-opener.
Katie Paredes had a double-double for the Regents with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Nia Wilkerson also totaled 11 points, and
Te Simpson added 14 rebounds to go along with six points.
RU got off to a slow start, surrendering a 13-1 lead to start the game, and trailed 38-13 at halftime.
In the second half, the Regents fought back to outscore Cornell, but unfortunately was not enough to overcome their first-half deficit, as the Regents outscored the Rams 21-18 in the last two quarters.
On the evening, the Regents shot 20.4% from the floor, knocked down one three-point basket, and won the rebounding battle 53-47.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Grinnell College for a 1 p.m. CDT tip-off.
