ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University men's basketball team squared off against the Concordia University Chicago Cougars on Saturday afternoon. Rockford fell 57-54.
Tre Miller led the team with 19 points.
Cooper Jackson paced the Regents with 7 boards, while
DeVon Oregon and
Luke Stuckey contributed 5 and 4 steals, respectively.
This was a game of runs. CUC jumped out to an early 8-0 lead before Jackson brought the hammer down with a two-hand slam to give Rockford their first points of the game.
The Regents trailed for most of the first half. CUC's largest lead stretched to 11. Offensively, Miller kept the Regents afloat, pouring in 17 of his 19 points in the first half.
Rockford closed the half on an 11-2 run to take a 34-33 lead into the break.
Both team's shooting percentages took a nosedive in the second period. It was a slug fest that saw four ties and six lead changes.
Kamren Hogan knocked down a three from the top of the key to give Rockford a 52-46 lead with five minuted to go.
From there on out it was all Cougars. The Regents only managed one more bucket throughout the final five minutes, as CUC took the lead off of a steady parade of free throws. Down three with seven seconds left,
Jaden Bell's game-tying three came up short.
On the evening, the Regents shot 33.3% from the field and 20.0% from beyond the arc.
The Regents will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 10, when they head to Chicago to take on Illinois Tech at 7 P.M. CST.
