ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-13) Friday night to the UW-Stevens Point Pointers. The Pointers were in control of nearly every statistical category, leading in kills (32-20), aces (5-2), blocks (7-2) and assists (30-20), but RU held the slight edge in digs (29-28). Unfortunately, the Regents just found it tough to get things going offensively, being held to single-digit kills in each set as well. This ultimately allowed the Pointers to win the match in straight sets, giving them the season sweep over Rockford.
- Rockford opened the match with a 5-3 lead after a kill from Joseis Dixon.
- Both teams battled in the early stages to a 11-9 RU lead after three straight points from Rockford, capped off by a Josh Albers kill.
- Unfortunately, the Pointers took control of the set with a massive 10-2 run, capped off by seven straight points to give Stevens Point a 19-13 lead.
- This was ultimately too much to overcome for Rockford as the Pointers eventually closed out the first set 25-16
- Stevens Point and Rockford got out to an 8-8 tie to open the second set after Jordan Hurst tied the set with a kill.
- Again, the Pointers took control, scoring 10 of the next 11 points to take a commanding 18-9 lead.
- Rockford found it tough to cut into the Pointer lead and never got any closer than eight the rest of the set. This allowed Stevens Point to take the second set 25-14.
- The Pointers held a slight 5-4 lead to begin the third set after Nathan Simons cut the lead to one with a kill.
- Stevens Point then went on a 7-2 run to take a 12-6 lead.
- The Regents were eventually able to cut the lead down to four at 16-12 thanks to a kill from Isaiah Dixon and a Pointer error.
- Unfortunately, the Pointers then scored nine of the next ten points to close out the third set by a final score of 25-13 and ultimately win the match in straight sets.
