ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University baseball team won 19-3 in convincing fashion over the Eureka College Red Devils on Friday afternoon. Rockford scored in every inning, but the second and bashed three home runs en route to the massive victory. The biggest offensive output of the day came in the third inning, where the Regents scored eight runs, highlighted by
Zach Fabis belting two home runs in the inning. Rockford was eventually able to close out the game in the seventh inning via the mercy rule to secure huge 19-3 win and win its seventh in a row against Eureka.
- After a scoreless top of the first, Rockford struck first in the bottom of the first with two runs thanks to a bases loaded walk by Nate Burdin and Kadin Bergstrom scoring on a wild pitch to give the Regents an early 2-0 advantage.
- Eureka responded right back with a two-run top of the second, scoring both of its runs in the inning on a two-run double to tie the game up at 2-2.
- Rockford then exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the third. Zach Fabis bashed a home run to right to lead off the inning, four batters later, with runners on second and third, David Wilhite knocked a two-run single to make it 5-2.
- Joseph Stagowski then came up one batter later and smashed a three-run homer over the left center wall to make it 8-2 and to cap things off Zach Fabis crushed a two-run homer for his second home run of the inning to make it a commanding 10-2 lead for Rockford.
- The Regents scored three more runs between the fourth and fifth innings. Rockford scored two in the fourth, taking advantage of a walk, a hit by pitch and an error in the inning and one in the fifth on a bases loaded walk by Erik Carlson to make it a 13-2 game.
- The Red Devils put up a single run in the top of the sixth on a wild pitch to make it 13-3, but Rockford got that run right back and more with a six-run bottom of the sixth.
- Rockford got a two-run single by Blaise Mace, three bases loaded walks and an RBI single by Jeremiah Olson in the inning to give the Regents a massive 19-3 lead heading into the top of the seventh with the mercy rule in play.
- The Regents were eventually able to record the final three outs of the game in the seventh, securing the massive 19-3 win over Eureka.
- Zach Fabis finished 2-for-4 with his first career multi-homer game, bashing his second and third of the season. Fabis also tallied 3 RBIs and 3 runs on the afternoon.
- Joseph Stagowski went 2-for-3 with his 11th home run of the season, a double, 2 runs, 3 RBIs, 2 walks and a stolen base.
- David Wilhite slashed 2-for-4 with a double, 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
- Logan Bennett picked up his first career victory, tossing 2.0 innings, allowing just a single hit and racking up 2 strikeouts.
- Hunter Pavia pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
