ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Rockford University football team fell to Elmhurst University, 34-30, on Saturday.
Quarterback Cartail Dickey threw three touchdown passes, completing 13 of 20 attempts for 233 yards.
Wide receivers Timothy Bearden and William Key each finished with over 100 receiving yards and one touchdown. Bearden totaled nine catches for 107 yards, while Key made two grabs for 121 yards.
Malik Gordon led Rockford on the ground with nine rushes for 26 yards. As a team, the Regents rushed for 51 yards.
Defensively, Matthew Hill and Antonio Buchanan led Rockford in tackles with 10 each.
Nasir Lamarre, Matthew Hill, Wendell Harris, and Ethan Rager each recorded one sack. Lamarre also had one interception, as did defensive back LeTerrious Mackey.
The Regents trailed 28-10 at halftime before pulling within four points heading into the fourth quarter. Kenny Moten-Barden scored on a 28-yard touchdown reception.
Elmhurst responded with a 70-yard touchdown but missed the PAT, giving Elmhurst a 34-17 lead.
Key made a 75-yard touchdown catch with 1:37 left in the third, and Bearden scored on a 16-yard touchdown reception to make it 34-30.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they host Eureka College at Sam Greeley Field to open NAAC conference play.
