ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University football team took on Eureka College on Saturday afternoon, a game which ended in a 40-20 loss.
Quarterback
Gage Hugart finished with 197 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air, on 18-of-28 passing.
Hugart also led the team in rushing yards with 28.
Isaiah Graves and
William Key combined for another 30 yards on the ground on 16 total attempts.
Wide Receiver
Timothy Bearden was a spark plug in the passing game. He finished with 12 catches for 113 yards. Key and
Kenny Moten-Barden both scored touchdowns through the air.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Joey Alvarez led all Regents with 11 tackles. He also took a fumble recovery to the house in the third quarter, the Regents first score of the game.
Ethan Rager and
Nasir Lamarre each had 2 tackles-for-loss, a sack, and a forced fumble to their name.
Cory Wysinger had an interception early in the game.Â
It was all Red Devils for most of the first half. The Regents offense took a while to get revved up, and they found themselves down 20-0 at the halftime break.
Eureka extended their lead to 26 before the defense jolted things to life with a 15 yard scoop and score from Alvarez in the third quarter.Â
Moten-Barden reeled in a 26 yard touchdown from Hugart to make the score 26-14 with 34 seconds left in the quarter. On the next offensive possession Key took a screen pass 30 yards for a score to make things interesting at 26-20. From there on out it was all Red Devils, finishing off the Regents 40-20.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they host Lakeland University at 1 p.m. CDT at Sam Greeley Field.
