ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University men's soccer team beat Concordia University Chicago 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon in their conference opener at Sam Greeley Field.
It was not a landslide by any means. The Cougars came out firing from the beginning, scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the game.
The Regents woke up shortly after, as
Jose Lane Mendoza cashed in off of a
Emilio Lopez assist in the 14th minute to cut the lead in half.
The offenses weren't done yet.
Rejhan Jakupi found himself one-on-one on a breakaway in the 29th minute. He made a move and converted into the bottom left corner of the net to tie the game up 2-2.
The game remained tied into the halftime break. It stayed that way until the 59th minute, when
Chardel Moussata lofted up a beautiful assist to Mendoza who scored his second goal of the game to take the lead.
Concordia Chicago was able to even up the score off the foot of Caleb Kale in the 68th minute, but the Regents wasted no time snatching that lead right back.
Kevin Sanchez served up a corner kick to
Andrew Roth, who finished with some emphasis to go up 4-3.
Rockford held on the rest of the way.
Wesley Pritzlaff had a couple key saves down the stretch (10 for the game) to seal a big win in their first NACC game of 2025.
The Regents will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 21, with a 3:30 p.m. CDT game at Sam Greeley Field against Millikin University.
