Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Regents Cage Sabercats

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University men's basketball team went to battle against the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist University on Saturday afternoon. They tamed the 'Cats for the second time this season, 74-54.

Four players finished in double-digits for the Regents. Adrian Agee led the team with 17 points. Kamren Hogan was right behind him with 13, and also contributed six rebounds and five assists. Jaden Bell and Kooper Staley both scored 11 points.

The Regents were lifeless to start the game. They were stuck at five points for the first eight minutes of action, three of those points coming at the free throw line. Maranatha came out on the opposite end of the spectrum, holding a 14-5 lead.

Rockford made a few substitutions and found some new life, as Ryan Bella, Ben Grunloh, and Staley each scored on consecutive possessions to pull the Regents back into it. They went on a 13-0 run and took a commanding 30-20 lead.

Maranatha wouldn't go quietly. They stormed back and finished the first half with a 9-0 run of their own, capped off by a Grant Brock half court buzzer-beater to finish the period.

The start of the second half was back and forth. Both teams traded buckets before Rockford eventually started to take control.

Agee was the main driving force, scoring 13 of his 17 points in the second half. He converted in a variety of ways and from all three levels.

The Regents outscored the Sabercats 44-25 in the second half. They were 20-29 from the field and 3-5 from three in the period. The hot shooting carried them to a 74-54 win.

The Regents will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 14, when they host Dominican University at 7 p.m. CST in the Seaver Center.
