ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's basketball team fought hard against the Lakeland University Muskies on Saturday afternoon, but eventually fell 73-60.
Te Simpson added another double-double to her season tally, putting up 20 points and 12 boards to give her 10 on the season. Simpson got help in the scoring department from
Kyla Wilkerson, who poured in 12 points, and
Reem Aldi, who knocked down three long-balls for nine points.
Both teams started the game ready to play offensively. Rockford put up 16 first quarter points, one of their best starts of the season, and held a 16-14 lead going into the second period.
Simpson led the Regents with six points in the second quarter (13 for the first half). They stayed sharp from the field but turnovers proved to be an issue. The Muskies got multiple buckets off of steals in transition and went into the half up 32-30.
The Muskies came out hot and put up a huge quarter to start the second half. They scored 25 points in the third period, going 9-17 from the field. Rockford also put up a big quarter of its own, scoring 21 points and knocking down seven free throws.
Rockford lost
Nia Wilkerson a minute into the fourth quarter after she recorded her fifth foul. The Muskies were able to seal the deal, outscoring Rockford 16-9 in the fourth to secure a 73-60 victory.
The Regents will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4, when they will host Concordia University Wisconsin at 7 p.m. CST in the Seaver Center.
