ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's volleyball team fell to the Benedictine University Eagles, 3-0, on Thursday night.
Lilly Dewey led Rockford with six kills and 13 digs.
Isabella Valdes put up seven assists, which only trailed
Milee Law's nine.
Carlie Buetsch was the closest Regent to Dewey in digs, finishing with seven.
The first set was competitive out of the gate. Each team traded mini runs before the Eagles jumped out to a 13-10 lead. A switched flipped from that point on. RU managed just four more points as Benedictine rolled to a 25-14 win.
The next frame ended with the same exact outcome, but the journey was slightly different. It was the Eagles taking control from the first point on, going up 12-3. Their 6-0 run later in the set seemed to spell doom for Rockford, but the Regents rattled off five straight to keep their footing down 19-12. BenU righted the ship for the final stretch, winning 25-14 for the second period in a row.
The Regents once again found themselves down 12-3 in the third set. The Eagles kept their foot on the pedal, extending their lead to 21-9. A couple substitutions sparked some life into the Regents, starting a 7-1 run that made things interesting. Each side would trade points to the end, as Benedictine earned the sweep with a 25-18 victory in set #3.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24, when they head to Milwaukee for a noon match against MSOE.
