GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Rockford University men's volleyball team fell to the Franklin College Grizzlies, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Jordan Hurst and
Joseis Dixon each recorded double-digit kills, with 14 and 12 respectively.
Tsubasa Namai led the team with 34 assists. Defensively,
Nathan Simons was the leader in digs with 12.Â
Multiple sets in this match went past the 25 point mark. It started with set number one. Both teams went back and forth and found themselves tied 23-23. The Regents capitalized on a Franklin error to take the lead before the Grizzlies rattled off three straight points to win 26-24.
The Grizzlies rode that momentum to start the second set. They were up 18-7 before the Regents stuck their heels in the ground and struck back. They went on their own 14-5 run before dropping the set 25-21.
The third set was the longest of the bunch. Franklin again and again was unable to close out the sweep. Tied 21-21, the teams traded the next 11 consecutive points. Rockford was finally able to break the streak, scoring off of a Grizzlies' attack error and taking the set 28-26.
The Grizzlies started off the final set in the same fashion as they had started the second. The Regents found themselves down 18-8 before mounting a mini comeback. Unfortunately, Franklin was finally able to close it out, securing the win 25-17.
The Regents finish off the Calvin University Invite with a 5:30 p.m. EST match against the hosts, the Calvin University Knights.
