Women's Basketball Falls Short at Illinois Tech

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's basketball team lost to NACC conference opponent Illinois Institute of Technology, 56-52, on Wednesday.

Te Simpson totaled her 11th double-double on the season scoring 20 points and collecting 12 rebounds. Kyla Wilkerson added a season-high 19 points with two rebounds and one assist.

Rockford had the lead once in the first half but struggled offensively, scoring just 19 points at halftime. Defensively, the Regents were solid to keep it close, as they only trailed by six points, trailing 25-19.

The Scarlet Hawks outscored the Regents 5-3 in the first three minutes of the third quarter. The Regents proceeded to go on an 8-0 run after trailing 30-22 in the first three minutes of action to tie the game at 30. Illinois Tech then responded to regain the lead and held a five-point 41-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Rockford went on an 8-0 run to start the fourth to take its largest lead of the contest, leading 44-41. Unfortunately for the Regents, the Scarlet Hawks proceeded to go on a 12-0 run to take a nine-point 53-44 lead with 2:49 remaining.

Offensively for the Regents, they shot much better in the second half, shooting 48.3% in the half, but was not enough as Illinois Tech was able to stop the momentum that the Regents generated in the second half.

On the evening, the Regents shot 40.7% overall from the floor and 20.0% from beyond the arc.

The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 21, when they will play at Marian University in the final game of the regular season at 1 p.m. CST.
