Men's Volleyball Falls to UW-Stevens Point

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Rockford University men's volleyball team fell to non-conference opponent University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 3-1, on Saturday. Set scores were 25-8, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18. 

Jordan Hurst had a team-high nine kills. Aaron John Reyes was one back from Hurst with eight, and Joseis Dixon had four. 

Ethan Pedroza rounded out the offensive production for the Regents, smashing three aces, and in the assists column, Tsubasa Namai had 27. 

On the defensive side, John Reyes led Rockford with seven blocks, while Jacob Brewster led the team with 12 digs. 

UW-Stevens Point dominated the first set and started on a 9-0 run, and dominated Rockford going wire-to-wire in the first set, winning 25-8. 

The second set was more competitive, but the Regents were unable to establish a lead, trailing 18-13. UW-Stevens Point pulled away, scoring five unanswered to extend the lead to 23-13, and finished the Regents off in the second set. 

The Regents then responded with a third-set victory, jumping out to a 6-1 lead and increasing their lead to 19-11. UW-Stevens Point did not go away as the Pointers came back to make it a one-point deficit, trailing 23-22. Fortunately, the Regents were able to hang on as a result of two errors from UW-Stevens Point. 

Rockford got off to a 9-4 start in the fourth set and held the lead for a good amount of time in the set. This time, the Pointers were able to complete their comeback, going on a 10-1 run to retake the lead and never gave it back up to seal the match. 

The Regents will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 24, when they will travel to non-conference opponent, Greeneville University at 6 p.m. CST.
