PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- The Rockford University men's volleyball team lost to NACC conference opponent Lakeland University, 3-0, on Saturday. Set scores were 25-19, 25-6, 27-25 in favor of the Muskies.
Josh Bowling planted five kills while
Nathan Simons and
Jordan Hurst both had one less with four.
Tsubasa Namai and
Aaron John Reyes smashed two aces while Namai led the Regents with 15 assists.
Defensively, Reyes totaled three blocks, and
Jacob Brewster had a team-high seven digs.
Both teams kept it close early in the opening set, until Lakeland went on a 4-0 run to go up 17-13. Following the spurt, back-to-back kills from Bowling and
Joseis Dixon stopped the momentum for the Muskies, but unfortunately, the Regents were unable to climb all the way back, and the Muskies took the first set.
Lakeland exploded in the second set, building a 17-2 lead, winning the second set 25-6.
The Regents regrouped in the third set, starting with a 1-0 lead as a result of an attack error from the Muskies. The third set was competitive throughout. Lakeland regained the lead 3-2 and held it until a Simons kill gave the Regents the lead back at 23-22. Lakeland proceeded to score two unanswered to regain the lead, and then an attack error from the Muskies sent the set into a deuce. Unfortunately for the Regents, back-to-back errors allowed Lakeland to complete the sweep.
The Regents will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 4, when they will face NACC conference opponent, Illinois Institute of Technology, at 7 p.m. CST.
