FRANKLIN, Ind. -- The Rockford University men's volleyball team lost to non-conference opponent Greenville University, 3-0, on Saturday in the first game of the Franklin Triangular. Set scores were 25-10, 25-17, 25-16.
Ethan Pedroza totaled five kills. In the assists column,
Jacob Brewster had 13 to lead the Regents.
PJ Peden, Pedroza, and
Zachary Lobue all tallied one ace.
Nathan Simons led the Regents in digs with seven, while
Josh Bowling had three blocks to round out the defensive production.
A service error right out of the gate put Rockford ahead 1-0, but Greenville responded on a 5-1 run and kept its foot on the gas the rest of the set as the Regents were never able to regain the lead and dropped the first set.
Greenville led the entire second set. The Panthers jumped out to a 16-9 lead, but the Regents got back in it with a 3-0 spurt that started with a kill from Pedroza, followed by two Panthers errors as the Regents cut it to four, trailing 16-12. Unfortunately for the Regents, two kills and a setting error allowed Greenville to match the 3-0 run immediately following Rockford's, which propelled Greenville to win the set.
The third and final set was full of runs and was competitive early with two lead changes. The Regents totaled five kills, but it was not enough as Greenville stormed its way through the third set, going on a 9-1 run to go up 19-12. This was a response from a 7-2 run Rockford made after the Panthers trailed 11-10. The Regents had a kill from
Jordan Hurst and an attack error to make it 19-14, but two Regent errors followed by four kills from the Panthers allowed Greenville to win the match.
The Regents will return to action at 3 p.m. EDT when they face the hosts, Franklin College, in the final game of the Franklin Triangular.
