SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- The Rockford University baseball team split a pair of games against Dominican University in a NACC doubleheader on Tuesday. The Stars won the first game 14-12 while the Regents dominated the second game, winning 19-0.

The Regents will return to action on Saturday, April 4, to take on Concordia University of Wisconsin in a NACC doubleheader at noon & 3 p.m. CDT at Regent Field.

Game One: Dominican 14, Rockford 12

QJ Mangelsen and Nate Burdin both totaled three hits. Mangelsen went 3-for-3 at the plate, and Burdin went 3-for-6.

Zach Fabis got the start on the hill with five innings of work, allowing five earned runs and seven hits. Fabis forced seven strikeouts. Bartolo Rodriguez came in for Fabis in the sixth, giving up three runs off two hits, while striking two batters out. Trent Lawrence pitched 0.2 innings, allowing four earned runs, three hits, and one punch out. Brendan Fitzpatrick allowed one hit and two strikeouts in the final inning of action.

Kadin Bergstrom put Rockford on the board first with an RBI single to left field to put the Regents up 1-0 after the first inning.

After two scoreless innings, Blaise Mace knocked an RBI single to center field, followed by Fabis recording an RBI single himself to the left side to extend the Regent lead, 3-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Dominican scored an unearned run with an RBI single to right field, as the Stars plated one run in the inning.

After one scoreless frame for the Regents, Dominican scored five runs with a three-RBI double and a two-run homer as Rockford suddenly trailed 6-3.

The sixth inning featured a lot of scoring for both the Stars and the Regents. At the top of the inning, Mangelsen scored for the Regents on an error by the catcher. Bergstrom then went yard with a three-run home run as the Regents regained the lead. An RBI single from Burdin put Rockford up 8-6. Dominican regained the lead with three runs, adding to the eight runs scored by both teams in the sixth. The Stars scored with a two-RBI double and an RBI double, both to left field.

Dominican extended its lead in the seventh, scoring the first two runs of the inning with two RBI walks, a two-RBI single, and plating an unearned run.

The eighth inning was scoreless, but the Regents fought back when Fabis tallied a sacrifice fly, Bryce Stanton hit an RBI single to right field, an RBI from Burdin on a fielder's choice, and Lawrence scored off a wild pitch. Unfortunately for the Regents, the Stars were able to get the final out to stop the Regent comeback.
