ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Rockford University softball team split a pair of games with nonconference opponent Elmhurst University, losing the first game 8-7 before bouncing back in the second, winning 7-6.
After today's pair of games, Rockford set a program record with 235 RBIs in a single season, surpassing the 2003 team's mark by 12.
That was the final pair of games of the 2026 Rockford softball season. Special thanks to everyone who supported throughout the year.
Game One: Elmhurst 8, Rockford 7
Sophia Hulsey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while
Liz Mois also totaled two RBIs with a solo shot to left field with a two-run home run.
Tayiah Scanlan,
Brooklyn Lee, and
Linnea Nelson also had two hits.
Kendall Knoll worked the first two-thirds of the first inning, allowing three earned runs and one hit.
Lorelei Monk threw for the remainder of the game and surrendered four runs off seven hits.
Rockford got off to a hot start offensively as Hulsey recorded a two-RBI single up the middle. The Regents eventually loaded the bases as they were able to score two more runs as Knoll and
Alexis Schuldt drew RBI walks to lead 4-0 after the top of the first.
Elmhurst responded, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first as the Bluejays were also able to load the bases and plated their first two runs with a pair of RBI walks and ended the inning with a two-RBI single to left field to tie the game at four.
Mois then homered for the 11th time this season in the second with a two-run home run, which now makes her one home run shy of a single-season record for home runs in a season, which put the Regents up 6-4.
Elmhurst scored a run in the bottom of the second with a groundout to shortstop, but drove in a run as the Regents lead 6-5 after two.
Nelson then flew out to left field to record a sacrifice fly in the fourth. The Bluejays matched with a run of their own with an RBI single up the middle as Rockford remained ahead 7-6 heading into the seventh.
Unfortunately for the Regents, they were unable to drive any more runs in as Elmhurst was able to score twice, as the Bluejays walked it off with an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the seventh to complete the comeback.
Game Two: Rockford 7, Elmhurst 6
Mois went yard again with a three-run home run to tie the single-season home run record.
Neelah Vandeberg had a team-high two hits, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Claire Shanahan got the start in the circle and worked 2 1/3 innings, giving up six runs off eight hits with a strikeout. Vandeberg came in for relief and threw for 2 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, zero runs, and forcing two strikeouts while earning the win.
Elmhurst scored the first six runs, and Rockford scored the final seven as both teams were scoreless after the first inning.
The Bluejays scored their first two runs with two RBI singles in the second and continued to extend their lead, scoring their final three runs with another RBI single and a three-run home run to grab a 6-0 lead after three innings of action.
Mois got the offense rolling in the fourth for the Regents by knocking a three-run home run to left center. Later in the inning, Vandeberg knocked an RBI single to left field as the Regents only trailed 6-4.
Rockford came all the way back in the sixth as Vandeberg hit another RBI single, this time to right center, and later made it home herself as a result of a throwing error by the Bluejays' shortstop to tie the game.
Mia Cosentino then singled to right field to record an RBI and drove in the game-winning run as Lysaght scored an unearned run.
The Regents then retired the Bluejays' side to bounce back in the second game.
