OLIVET, Mich. -- The Rockford University women's soccer team opened its season with an 8-0 loss to the University of Olivet in a non-conference match on Tuesday.
The Comets scored first in the sixth minute with a goal from Sally Shelby and kept their foot on the gas as Victoria Murphy found the back of the net less than five minutes later in the 11th minute. Ava Harshbarger then scored two consecutive goals as Olivet took a 4-0 lead heading into halftime. Olivet added four more goals in the second half.
The Regents were outshot 37-4 by the Comets.
Natasha Toc-Monrroy made eight saves in 66 minutes of action, while
Karina Zamarripa made three saves in the match's final 24 minutes.
The Regents will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 10, when they travel to Beloit, Wis., to face Beloit College at 4:30 p.m.
