ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team played a very close match against NACC opponent Lakeland but fell 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. The two sides were inseparable for a majority of the match, most of the sets coming down to the final few points. An opening set loss for Rockford of 25-22 was followed up with a 28-26 set victory to tie the set points up. A tough 25-16 third-set loss couldn't be matched, resulting in a heart-breaking 26-24 set 4 loss to seal the deal for the Regents, losing 3-1.
Alexis Brashaw played an outstanding match, she recorded season-highs in kills (14) assists (3) and blocks (6).
- Rockford opened the match in front but quickly fell behind on a four-point run by the muskies to make it 6-4.
- Lakeland held a very slim lead for the entire rest of the set, five points being the maximum distance between the two.
- The Regents had a chance a 23-22, but LU took the final two points and won the first set 25-22.
- Set two was again in the Regents favor to start, this time going up 7-3. Melody Moreno had two kills in the run and Della Crain recorded two aces.
- The Muskies quickly swam back into the set, taking a lead at 11-9, which was responded to quickly with five-straight Regents points. Alexis Brashaw hitting a pair of kills, Della Crain earning a kill, and Nicole Eggers serving an ace.
- It was a back and forth battle the rest of the set, Lakeland tying Rockford 5 times before RU finally got the needed two points to win the second set 28-26.
- The third set landed in Lakeland's hands early, a 9-1 run put them up big at 15-6, a deficit the Regents never recovered from.
- The Muskies earned the third set win with ease, taking it by a final score of 25-16.
- Rockford had its back against the wall, but the Muskies didn't hold back, taking an 8-3 lead at the start of set 4.
- It looked like another blowout was coming up, as Lakeland jumped ahead 17-6.
- The match was not over yet, however, the Regents came together to stun the Muskies, coming all the way back to tie the set at 24-24. Della Crain led the way with four kills in that run, and Melody Moreno added three of her own.
- After pulling all the way back with a chance at forcing a fifth set, Lakeland finished the match right after with a kill and an ace to take the set and the match 26-24.
