ELGIN, Ill. - The RU men's volleyball team (2-7) bounced back with an impressive 3-0 win Friday evening over the Roosevelt University Lakers (0-5) in the Regents' second match of the day at the Judson University Invitational. All three sets were close, but it was the Regents who came out on top 26-24, 25-20 and 25-20. As a team, Rockford smashed home 27 kills compared to 16 errors on 78 total attack attempts. Rockford also tied its season-high in a 3-set match with 7 service aces. The victory is the Regents' first over Roosevelt in program history.
- The opening set of the match was extremely close with neither team leading by more than two points until very late in the set.
- With Roosevelt holding an 18-17 advantage, Rockford ran off five straight points to grab a 22-18 lead. Josh Albers led the way with a pair of service aces for the Regents.
- The Regents were eventually able to gain a set point at 24-23, but the Lakers erased it with a kill from Shawn McCarthy to tie the set at 24-24.
- Fortunately, Rockford scored the next two points to win the opening set 26-24 and take a 1-0 lead.
- The second set followed a similar pattern with neither team able to gain any separation until late in the set.
- With Rockford leading 17-16, the Regents used a 5-1 run to take a 22-17 advantage. Michael Moss tallied a kill and Tristan Cox delivered a service ace during that span.
- The Lakers were able to cut it to three twice, but Rockford scored the final two points on a Jose Padron kill and a Laker error, to win the set 25-20 and grab a 2-0 lead.
- Rockford opened the third set with 10-4 run to jump out to a quick lead. Three different Regents recorded kills in the first ten points, led by two kills each from Danny Karpenko and Jose Padron.
- The Lakers were able to cut the Regent lead in half on several occasions, but each time Rockford responded and pushed the lead back up to five or six points.
- With the Regents holding a 24-20 lead, Michael Moss smashed home the final kill of the day, to win the third set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
