ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team (3-19, 0-8 NACC) came up short against the MSOE Raiders (10-7, 5-2 NACC) in three straight sets on Friday night. Rockford made a strong push after dropping the first set (25-17) but slipped up late in the second set (25-22). The Regents played a strong final set but were unable to take one back, falling 25-17.
Jose Padron had a great game with 12 kills in the three sets for the Regents.
- Rockford and MSOE began by trading points to a score of 3-3. The Raiders started their first run of the match, scoring the next five points before Rockford could respond.
- MSOE kept a steady lead for a majority of the set, not allowing the Regents to get close on the scoreboard. The Raiders held a six-point lead until a 5-2 run set them up perfectly 23-15.
- Rockford managed to get two more points before the final point, MSOE took the first set of the match 25-17.
- The Regents led the charge to start the second set, building a 7-3 lead. Jose Padron had a pair of solid kills during the run.
- MSOE Regularly pulled within two points but Rockford was able to hold the lead until the middle of the set.
- The Raiders earned their first tie with the Regents at 15-15 and took their first lead shortly after.
- MSOE was holding the lead, but the Regents were close behind with the score 21-20.
- The Raiders pulled away at the last second and closed the second set before Rockford could catch up, winning 25-22.
- Rockford went down 2-0 to start the third set but roared back with four straight points. Da'Quan Bates had a pair of kills to get the run started.
- The Raiders tied the set and the two sides battled back-and-forth with consistent lead changes. MSOE was able to eventually pull ahead by four at 12-8.
- MSOE held off the Regents attack and built its lead to 20-13. Rockford responded with three-straight points of its own, but only found one more point before an MSOE run finished the job. The Raiders took the third set and the match, 25-17.
